Libby

You certainly never know what life has to offer you on any given day.    We lost our Libby today.   The snow was very high by the far end of the fence.    It was difficult to dig out because of the layer of ice that was about half way down.    I had started to dig a mote so that she could not get up to the fence.    She was outside by herself.   The mailman must have gone by and she jumped the fence and chased after him.   He followed him up our road and to the coutry road where our road ends.    She turned west and got killed just up the road a piece.    Jake found her in the middle of the road and brought her home.    I still can't stop crying.    She had a fenced back yard, and I knew that she hated moving vehicles of any kind.    I can't help but feel responsible because  I didn't bring her in with the other dogs and because I didn't dig a mote around the fence to keep her away from it.     I have never lost a dog in an accident in the 40 years that I have dogs.   I have never even had one hurt on a road.    My poor baby; she seemed to have an obession with moving vehicles. and I didn't work hard enough to help her overcome it.    Other than that she was a sweet dog and a wonderful playmate for Zippy the corgi.    She will be sorely missed.    Jake said that she could not have suffered as her injuries were extensive, and she was dead when he found her.

Now I fear that no one will ever sell me another dog because I was careless and let this dog escape from her fenced yard.

Libby................run free whereever you are and remember that we loved you and that you were a beloved member of our family.

Sharrie,
My heart breaks for you. I'm so very sorry. There isn't much to say, except you are in my thoughts. We try so very very hard to keep our pets safe, but sometimes for one little instant things just line up for something terrible like this to happen. She was a beautiful girl and again, I'm so very sorry.

I am so sorry, Sharrie. Libby had her own plan and was waiting for the opportunity to carry it out. You loved her and you took great care of her, but we cannot control everything around us. You will come to remember her with a smile -- she'll always own a place in your heart.

I'm so sorry.

As for the thought nobody will ever sell you another dog, I'm sure someone will when you are ready. Accidents happen and I think anyone who has had animals long enough knows it.

Hugs.

It is always hard to lose our 4-legged friends, but you must not blame yourself. Dogs and cats are often so determined to do what they feel compelled to do that they will find a way to get around our best efforts to protect them. Grieving is the way through your loss, but not guilt. Feel the lose you gave Libby being returned to you.

Sharrie,

I'm so sorry! There are no words for a loss like this. We do what we can the best we can. It can and does happen to all of us sometimes we get luck and nothing happens. I'm so sorry and I know Zippy will miss his friend and I know your heart will hurt. As the person who sold you your last dog I don't think that is something you have to worry about that.

Oh, no. I'm so sorry . . .

It was an accident and could have happened to anybody. No matter how careful you are sometimes a dog will get loose.

Don't beat yourself up too badly, but it's ok to cry (and cry).

Oh Sharrie, I am heartsick for your loss! I would be doing all the things you are doing right now, too; you can't really help it. May the acute pain in your heart heal sooner rather than later, and with the healing, the acceptance that it was not your fault. ((((HUGS))))

So sad to read about this - my heart goes out to you. The snow has been so deep - many fences are much "shorter" than usual. It is not your fault - don't blame yourself. Nobody else would blame you. Libby will wait for you on the other side of Rainbow Bridge. Blessed be.

Sharrie,
my thoughts are with you as I so understand your feelings. I lost my first beagle to the road. He was off on a rabbit trail and was so focused on it. I was calling and calling him as I knew he was heading to the road and I just could not get to him fast enough. I was devasted for months but time does heal all wounds. Cherish the time you had with her:)

I am SO sorry. We've all gone through this and it never gets any easier. Everyone is right - this was an accident and nothing you could have prevented. Hugs and snuzzles to you and Zippy.

I'm so sorry for your loss, it's never easy no matter what the circumstances, but don't beat yourself up, you can't foresee everything nor protect them all the time. You're clearly a wonderful dog owner and your animals are lucky to have you x

I am so sorry for your loss. It was an accident. Unfortunately they happen. Do not beat your self up over it. Our hearts are with you during this time, but your Libby was so loved, and so many do not know that.

Sharrie I'm just catching up with blogs. This isn't what I was expecting to read.

I am so sorry for you. Having been able to meet her this summer what a priveldge and honor. She was a very sweet girl who kept Zippy in line and had fun with him.

sadie was run over by my grandfather after I let her and oliver follow me to the garage. It only took seconds and they were off like a light. I beat myself up all the time. It never gets easier to say it wasn't your fault and to feel the blame or responsibility. But things do happen.

When the time is right, and your heat is ready to love again, there will be many people who would be willing to place a dog with you, so do not worry about that. You have a very happy, healthy home for dogs!

Chin up, and my thoughts are with you and Jake!

Oh Sharrie! I am SO sorry. I know how desperately you hurt. Unfortunately, I've been there too.

What a wonderful life you gave to your beautiful Libby! And now she can chase things to her heart's content...

I hope that you and Scooter and Zippy can find comfort with each other.

Sending you a big hug!
